South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre (SLNRC)

The Newcomer Settlement Services at South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre was officially launched in late 2007. Through the Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program (ISAP), Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) provided funds to implement programs aimed at serving newcomers. These services include information and referral on life in Canada and the community, connect newcomers to other resources and services, assist with day-to-day issues, and provide one-on-one information as well as group sessions on settlement-related issues. The centre provides neighbourhood-based services and is considered as a community hub. The centre focuses on bringing several programs and services through partnerships with and delivers a client-centered approach.

The Centre also provides Job Search Workshops (JSWs) to newcomers by offering workshops on Canadian job market, resume and cover letter writing, interview skills including video taping of mock interviews, cold calling and networking and how to overcome the barrier of “No Canadian Work Experience”. In addition, basic computer training is offered to assist newcomers with employment readiness.

Library Settlement Program (LSP) is a partnership settlement program between CIC, public libraries and settlement agencies in communities. Services under LSP program include one-on-one settlement information and referral, group information sessions, and community outreach.

Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) is a partnership of Settlement Agencies, Boards of Education and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Through SWIS, SLNRC helps newcomer students and their families settle in their school and community.
