Newcomer Settlement Services at South London Neighbourhood
Resource Centre was officially launched in late 2007. Through the
Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program (ISAP), Citizenship and
Immigration Canada (CIC) provided funds to implement programs aimed at
serving newcomers. These services include information and referral on
life in Canada and the community, connect newcomers to other resources
and services, assist with day-to-day issues, and provide one-on-one
information as well as group sessions on settlement-related issues. The
centre provides neighbourhood-based services and is considered as a
community hub. The centre focuses on bringing several programs and
services through partnerships with and delivers a client-centered
approach. |

Celebrating ChopinOctober 2, 2010 |
2010 marks the 200th Anniversary of the birth of
the Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin and the Canadian Polish Congress – London
District and the Polish Community is proud to present “Celebrating Chopin” on
October 2, 2010 at the Central London Public Library 10am to 5pm.
The highlight of the day will be a concert in Wolf Hall at 2:30 pm featuring
pianists, dancers and singers. The cost for the concert is $10.

Employment:Labour Force Trends/Survey by Service CanadaFrom April 2009 to April 2010 employment in the London economic region rose by 5,900, led by full-time employment gains of 3,900 jobs. The labour force remained stable and the number of unemployed people fell by 4,200 workers. Read more> |

Settlement Services:NEW SERVICE Offered in SchoolsSettlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program offers school-based settlement services for newcomer students and their families at no cost. It places settlement workers from community organizations in elementary and secondary schools to help newcomer students and their families settle into their school and community easily. It is a partnership between the Service Providing Organizations, London’s School Boards, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. |
